The Peatlands Park Railway is a miniature railway used narrow-gauge railway with a track width of 3  feet (914 mm) south of Dungannon in County Armagh , Northern Ireland .

Location and history

The narrow-gauge railway was first used in 1901 as a peat railway in a peat cut . It runs in Peatlands Park, an area of ​​266 hectares that has been under the protection of the Northern Irish Environment Agency since 1990. It has been designated as an Area of ​​Special Scientific Interest (ASSI). The Peatlands Park is home to a particularly rich selection of fauna and flora in peat bogs and offers its visitors 16 km of walking and hiking trails.

There are two 1980s in the park. H. even before the park was founded, protected nature reserves , Annagarriff (77 ha) and Mullenakill (22 ha). Annagarriff is home to the only colony of Scottish wood ants in Ireland.
