Peder Aagesen

Peder Aagesen (also: Peter Haagensen , Petrus Haggaeus ; * 1546 in Copenhagen ; † September 16, 1591 ibid) was a Danish philologist .

Life

The son of the merchant Knud Haage and his wife Dorthe became a student of Dr. Niels Hemmingsens (1513-1600). On the advice of Peder Oxe , he went abroad to complete his studies. On May 2, 1569 he enrolled at the University of Wittenberg , where he acquired the degree of master's degree on March 8, 1571 . In 1572 he had returned to Copenhagen, in 1573 he became an associate professor for Latin poetry at the Pedagogy in Copenhagen and on June 29, 1574 he received the bachelor's degree in theology under Hemmingsen .

After he had staged a play with his students in honor of the baptism of Prince Christian in 1577, he took over the professorship of the Greek language in 1580 and the professorship of dialectics in 1584. He also took part in the revision of the Bible in 1588 and was dean of the philosophical faculty of the Alma Mater. On August 4, 1588, he married Karine, the daughter of the historian M. Hans Svaning (1503–1584). No children are proven from this marriage.
