Pedraforca

The Pedraforca with its two peaks one of the most striking mountains in Catalonia ( Spain ). The two mountain peaks, Pollegó Superior ( 2497  m ) and el Calderer ( 2491  m ) tower above all the peaks in the area. The Catalan name is derived from the shape of the mountain: pedra ('stone') and forca ('fork').

geography

The Pedraforca is located in the Pre-Pyrenees , south of the Serra del Cadí in the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park . The rock massif is located in the northeast of the Comarca Berguedà , on the municipal boundary of the places Saldes and Gósol .

geology

Around 50 to 100 million years ago, through the collision of the African and Eurasian plates , the fold mountains of the Pyrenees and the Pre-Pyrenees and thus also the Pedraforca arose. The mountain received its present form through erosion over millions of years.

Natural park

The Paratge Natural d'Interès Nacional del Massís del Pedraforca was designated as a special part of the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park in 1982 by the Catalan Parliament .
