Pedro Luis de Borja

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pedro Luis de Borja (* 1432 ; † September 26, 1458 ) was a younger brother of Rodrigo Borgia (Pope Alexander VI.) And nephew of Alfonso Borgia (Pope Kalixt III.).

Pedro Luis de Borja y Borja was the son of that coming from Valencia Jofré de Borja i Escriva de Balaguer (1390-1436), son of Rodrigo Gil de Borja i de Fennolet and Sibilia d'Escrivà i de Pròixita , and from Aragon originating Isabel de Borja y Llançol (1390–1468), daughter of Juan Domingo de Borja and Francina Llançol , born. His family name is written Llançol in Valencia . The general Spanish spelling is Lanzol.

After the elevation of his uncle Alfonso Borgia to Pope Kalixt III. Pedro Luis was given various offices and honors due to the family ties. In the spring of 1456 he was given the office of castellan of Castel Sant'Angelo , and in the further course he received rule over the provinces of Terni , Narni , Todi , Rieti , Orvieto , Spoleto , Foligno , Nocera , Assisi , Amelia , Civita Castellana and Nepi . This rapid rise of Pedro and other members of the Borgia clan in the context of the papacy of Alfonso Borgia was viewed with resentment by many other cardinals. The Spanish origin of the Borgias also played a role here.

So after the death of Alfonso Borgia on August 6, 1458, there was a revolt against the "Catalans", as a result of which Pedro had to flee Rome. He died on the way to Civitavecchia at the age of only 26.
