Pedro Folch de Cardona y Villena († 1450 ) from the House of Folch de Cardona was Count of Collesano and appointed Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece .

Life

Pedro de Cardona was the son of Antonio de Cardona, Conte di Caltabellotta and Viceroy of Sicily (1416–1421), and Leonor Manoel de Vilhena (Manuel de Villena); he came from the Kingdom of Aragón , his parents had come to southern Italy in connection with the takeover of power by the Spaniards.

He received the county of Collesano in Sicily in 1444 for his services (and those of his father) to the king. His brother Alfonso had already received the county of Reggio Calabria in 1439 for his achievements in the conquest of Naples.

Pedro de Cardona was accepted into the Order of the Golden Fleece in 1451. The background to the recording was the intention of Duke Philip the Good of Burgundy to organize a crusade. In order to win the support of King Alfonso V of Aragon , who was also King and Sicily, for this company, he took him in 1445 and six years later two of its most important advisors - Pedro de Cardona was Chamberlain and Magister Justiciarius de Sicilia ( Justiciar ) - in the order (the other was Juan de Guevara, Count of Ariano).

When Cardona's chain of orders was brought to Sicily by Jean le Fèvre, Seigneur de Saint-Rémy , as king of the coat of arms and the knights of the order Jacques de Lalaing and Jean II. De Croÿ , the duke's envoys had to find out that Pedro de Cardona had already died; he was never able to wear the chain of the order.

family

Pedro de Cardona's wife is unknown. He had a son, Artale († 1478), who followed him as 2nd Count of Collesano; he became Gran Cancelliere del Regno di Sicilia.
