Jean Le Fèvre de Saint-Remy or Lefèbvre de Saint-Remy (* around 1395 in Abbeville ; † June 16, 1468 in Bruges ) was Seigneur de Saint-Rémy, de la Vacquerie , d ' Avesne et de Morienne .

Life

Jean Le Fèvre was a Burgundian chronicler during the Hundred Years War . It was also called "Toison d'or" (Golden Fleece) because of its close ties to the Order of the Golden Fleece . Of noble origin, he took part in the battles of his time, including on the English side in 1415 at the Battle of Azincourt . When Philip the Good of Burgundy founded the Order of the Golden Fleece in 1430 , he was appointed king of the coat of arms and thus quickly became influential at the Burgundian court. He often supported Duke Philipp in negotiations with foreign rulers, served as an arbiter in tournaments and various questions of chivalry , where his profound knowledge of heraldry was highly valued. Georges Chastellain describes his age-related resignation from the office of the coat of arms king on the monastic capital of May 1468 in Bruges, a few days before his death.

Jean Le Fèvre wrote a Chronique ou Histoire de Charles VI, roy de France , which is largely just a new edition of the work of Enguerrand de Monstrelet , but for the years 1428 to 1436 his own work, which mainly contains valuable information about the There is knighthood at the Burgundian court. He writes more succinctly than Monstrelet, but is just as partial in his attitude towards the dukes of Burgundy.
