Pekka Vapaavuori

Pekka Juhani Vapaavuori (born August 6, 1962 in Turku ) is a Finnish architect.

Pekka Vapaavuori studied architecture at the Technical University in Tampere until 1993 . In 1994 he founded his own architectural office in Turku . He also teaches architecture in Tampere.

The most famous building by Pekka Vapaavuori is the KUMU art museum in Estonia's capital Tallinn . Vapaavuori won the tender back in 1994. Due to lack of funds, work did not begin until 2002 and the museum was officially opened in February 2006. In the same year, Pekka Vapaavuori received the annual prize for Estonian architecture and the cultural prize of the Estonian state for his work.
