Peleg

Peleg ( Hebrew פֶּלֶג) is a man named in the Old Testament .

etymology

The Hebrew name פֶּלֶג means “division” and can be derived from the tribe פלג, which means “to split” in Nifal . This relates to the dispersion of humanity in Gen 11: 1-9  EU .

Biblical report

Peleg, the son of Ebers , was according to Gen 11: 18-19  EU 30 years old when he fathered Regu . He then lived for 209 years, fathered sons and daughters, and died at the age of 239. A brother mentioned in Gen 10.35  EU bears the name Joktan . In Peleg's time the land was divided.

Mention in the anniversaries

In the book of jubilees , his mother's name is given as Azura, daughter of Nebrod (8.7). His wife is called Lomna, daughter of Sinear (10:18). The name Peleg and the biblical reference to the division of the land is interpreted in relation to a division of the land among the sons of Noah .
