The Pelham Islands ( English: Pelham Islands ) are a group of islands in the west of Long Island Sound . The group's twelve or so islands are located in the US state of New York .
history
The islands were acquired by the Siwanoi Indians in 1654 by Thomas Pell (1612–1669), brother of the English mathematician John Pell , and initially formed the parish of Pelham Manor in what is now Westchester County . Several of the Pelham Islands became part of New Rochelle , the remaining islands through resale from 1895 part of the Bronx , a district of New York City .
