Travers Island is a peninsula with an area of approximately 0.2 km² in Long Island Sound in the city of New Rochelle in Westchester County , New York . It is located between Neptune Island , Glen Island and the Hunter Island peninsula belonging to the Bronx .

The summer camp of the New York Athletic Club has been located on Travers Island since 1887 , and its stadium has provided and still offers optimal training opportunities for many athletes.

In 1892 Travers Island was still an island that belonged to the Pelham Islands and was connected to the mainland by a dam . Later, the terrain between the island and the mainland was raised, so that Travers Island became a peninsula.
