Pellene
Pellene ( Greek Πελλήνη ( f. Sg. )) Is an ancient Greek polis on the Peloponnese in the Achaia region , near the Gulf of Corinth on the border with Argolis . The city-state bordered Sikyon in the southeast, separated by the Sythas River, and was about 35 km northwest of Corinth .
The remains of the ancient city of Pellene are located near the Greek city of Xilokastro . In Pellene there was a colossal painting of Athena by the Greek artist Pheidias .

Around the middle of the 7th century BC BC stood. Orthagoras , an aristocrat from the neighboring city of Sikyon , in clashes with Pellene. But only his successor Kleisthenes managed to victoriously end the dispute.
