The Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center is a multi-purpose complex located in Harrisburg , Pennsylvania in the United States . The complex opened in 1966 and has been the main venue for the annual Pennsylvania Farm Show ever since .

history

The beginnings of the "Pennsylvania Farm Show" go back to the year 1917, when an event of this kind took place in Harrisburg for the first time. Until 1931 the show was held annually at different venues and from the same year it came to the Main Exhibition Building . Over time, the event became more and more popular nationwide, with 400,000 attendees expected for the 2010 Pennsylvania Farm Show. A total of around 6,000 animals and 10,000 other exhibits from 270 different exhibitors will be made available at the show in 2010.

In addition to the “Pennsylvania Farm Show”, concerts, car shows, horse sales, etc. take place in the halls. From 1991 to 2003 one of the buildings was the main venue of Harrisburg Heat , a professional indoor football team with gaming operations in the former leagues National Professional Soccer League and Major Indoor Soccer League . In the meantime, the Harrisburg Hammerheads basketball team , a member of the Continental Basketball Association , played in one of the complex's various halls in 1994 and 1995 . From 2009 to 2013, the professional indoor football franchise Harrisburg Stampede was active in the AIFA, founded in 2005, in one of the many halls and played its home games there. In 2012, the newly founded indoor soccer franchise Harrisburg Heat, with games in the Major Arena Soccer League, named the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center its home ground. 2016 changed the previously as York Capitals known Central Penn Capitals , an indoor football franchise, of York , Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and named themselves the first time here in Central Penn Capitals order. Previously active in the York City Ice Arena , they started their home game this year at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center.

Halls and capacity

The complex, which opened in 1966, can accommodate around 7,600 people at sporting events. In the entire complex there are six halls, an arena in which most equestrian sports such as dressage etc. are held, as well as a large arena (similar to the equestrian hall). There is also a separate hall section with 918 seats, in which mainly actions take place. The entrance hall, which leads around the so-called Large Hall , offers almost 2,000 m² of space for exhibitors with their stands. There is also a barn with a total of 124 stables next to the complex.

  • Lower Spine : 17,300 sq ft (approx. 1,600 m²)
  • Sale Arena : 4,000 sq ft (approx. 400 m²), auction hall (918 seats)
