The Penrhyn Castle Railway Museum is a railway museum in Penrhyn Castle near Bangor in Wales .
In the 19th century, the Pennant family, which was called Douglas-Pennant from 1840 and owned the slate quarry of Penrhyn near Bethesda , lived in Penrhyn Castle.
The quarry was opened up early on with a narrow-gauge railway , the Penrhyn Quarry Railway (PQR). This ran near Penrhyn Castle. That is why a small works railway museum was set up there in 1951 in the former horse stables .
The first locomotive to be bequeathed to the museum was the Charles steam locomotive , one of the three remaining steam locomotives from the PQR. Over time, the collection was expanded to include additional exhibits.
