Pension Volkmann

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pension Volkmann was a folk rock duo founded in East Berlin in 1983 .

Band history

The singer and guitarist Peter Butschke (born March 25, 1950 in Berlin) and the guitarist Reinhard Sonnenburg-Buchholz (born September 21, 1953 in Berlin, † February 1, 2007 in Berlin) developed a unique style. Butschke sang with a sonorous voice, Sonnenberg-Buchholz complemented him with his virtuosity. Werner Karma wrote the socially critical texts . Freedom, passion, feelings and humanity were the themes of the pieces.

Both musicians studied at the "Hanns Eisler" University of Music in Berlin . The professionalism they acquired there and their different personalities resulted in a total of three albums. It was possible to release the last album in the early 1990s during the historical upheaval. For personal reasons, among other things, it was ultimately not possible to permanently redefine the musical mission of the duo in the changed social environment of the Federal Republic of Germany . After a long break there were a few small concerts.

meaning

The relatively open criticism of the balance of power in the GDR contributed significantly to the popularity of Pension Volkmann until the fall of the Wall .
