The department of San Martín is located in the east of the province of Corrientes in northeast Argentina and is one of 25 administrative units in the province.

In the north it borders on the department of Santo Tomé , in the east, separated by the Río Uruguay , on Brazil and the department of General Alvear , in the south on the department Paso de los Libres and in the west on the department Mercedes .

The capital of the Department of San Martín is La Cruz .

Nature reserve

A large part of the department belongs to the Esteros del Iberá nature reserve , including Colonia Carlos Pellegrini , the starting point for exploring the reserve.

In Yapeyú the birthplace of General is Jose de San Martin , now the Museo Sanmartiniano .
