The Santo Tomé department is located in the northeast of the Corrientes province in northeast Argentina and is one of the province's 25 administrative units .
It is bordered to the north and west by the Ituzaingó Department , to the north by the Misiones Province , to the east, separated by the Uruguay River , by Brazil and to the south by the General Alvear and San Martín departments .
The capital of the Santo Tomé department is the eponymous Santo Tomé .

The department of Santo Tomé is one of the most prosperous regions of the province, mainly because of the cultivation of yerba mate . The largest producer in the country, the Las Marías model system , is located here. The cultivation of rice and soy is also important. Forestry concentrates on the cultivation of further eucalyptus and pine forests for the wood and paper industry .
