Pep Blay ( Josep Blay Boqué , born September 2, 1966 in Tarragona , Spain ) is a Catalan writer, screenwriter, music journalist and one of the well-known contemporary authors of Catalonia. As a music journalist, he interviewed greats like Lou Reed , The Cure and Nick Cave . He works with Spanish artists such as Enrique Bunbury , Iván Ferreiro , Amparanoia .

Life

Blay was born on September 2, 1966 in Tarragona, the youngest of three children. He developed a special affinity for literature and language at an early age. Therefore, from 1984 to 1989 he studied Catalan Philology at the Tarragona Faculty of the University of Barcelona . During his studies he worked as a cultural journalist for the Catalan daily newspaper Catalunya Sud , published poems in the magazine Negre + Roig and founded the collective Andrògina Productions .

After graduation, Blay moved to Barcelona to begin postgraduate studies in theater theory and criticism and to study Japanese. In the same year he began writing about literature for the Catalan daily AVUI and ran the supplement Rock & Classics for four years . He also worked for magazines such as El Temps , Catalònia and Cultura . Between 1990 and 2000, Blay appeared sporadically to recite poetry, a fragment of which can be found on the DVD Poesia en viu a Barcelona (Habitual Video Team / Propost.org, 1991-2003).

Blay began his career as a music editor in 1993 at AVUI . In the same year he also started as the singer of the Tarragon post-mortem underground band Els Patètix , with which he stayed for three years. In 1995 he published a biography of the Catalan musician and songwriter Lluís Llach within the Los Autores Collection (SGAE Barcelona) . Blay's work at the Catalan television broadcaster Televisió de Catalunya began in 1999, where he worked, among other things, as program director of the Bohèmia cabaret , as a screenwriter and art director. He published further biographies about Catalan rock bands in 2002 ( "Sopa de Cabra. Si et quedes amb mi" , Rosa dels Vents) and in 2003 ( " Els Pets . Cara a cara" , Rosa dels Vents). He created the series “Sexe, Blay & rock'n'roll” for the magazine Enderrock , which is closely related to later works.

From an early age, Blay's passion for traveling took him through Europe, the USA, Iceland, Tanzania and Mexico. In September 2003 he went on a world tour for a year to experience the cultures of Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Brazil and Japan. The experience marked a turning point in Blay's life, so that in 2006 he began working as a screenwriter for the travel program Km33 for the Catalan television broadcaster Tv3 , which led to further trips to Morocco, Burkina Faso, Mali and New York. He broadcasts travel reports and other reports on the Catalan radio station iCat fm .

Blay, who has always been a supporter of vampirism and polipoetry, became known through his novel "Vampíria Sound" (Plaza & Janés Editores, SA), a radical, contemporary music thriller, published in 2004 . In 2007 he gave the novel biography "Enrique Bunbury. Lo demás es silencio ” (Plaza & Janés).

In 2009 he published the teenage fantasy novel "Gotholàndia" (Montena) was in Catalan, at the same time came "Erótica Mix" , four short stories about music and sex in both Catalan (Rosa dels Vents) and Spanish (at Plaza & Janés) edition on the market.
