Amparanoia was a Spanish band on the mestizo scene, which was founded in 1996 by Amparo Sánchez and has its origins in Granada . In her music she combined the influences of different cultures and styles such as traditional folklore, dub , reggae , ska , rumba , bolero , jazz , cumbia and others. The texts were mostly in Spanish , but also in French and English and often addressed political and socially critical issues.

history

The name of the band was a play on words from the singer's first name (Amparo) and the term paranoia . Other members of the band were José Alberto Varona and Vesko Kountchev, as well as Caridad Borges.

The band was particularly successful in the alternative music scene in Spain and is also known for its exchange and collaboration with the French singer and musician Manu Chao . For example, the title Buen Rollito on the debut album El Poder De Machin was created in a collaboration and was later released on Manu Chao's album under the title Welcome To Tijuana .

Amparo Sánchez broke up the band in 2008 after a farewell tour and the last album Seguiré caMinando and has pursued a solo career since then.

According to the official website, the band has existed again since the beginning of 2017, gave a few gigs and has announced further dates for 2018.
