Amparo Sánchez (born September 24, 1969 , full name Amparo Mercedes Sánchez Pérez, in Alcalá la Real , Jaén ) is a Spanish singer and former front woman of the mestizo band Amparanoia .

Career

Initially, Sánchez's music was more influenced by Caribbean styles that mixed with the Andalusian rumba ; In the meantime, diverse Latin American music styles such as cumbia from Colombia, Cuban son or Mexican bolero have been added to this mix .

On her solo debut album Tucson-Habana from 2010 she mixed influences of rumba and flamenco with son, reggae and Tex-Mex influences. After Sánchez had a guest role on the album Carried to Dust by the band Calexico in 2008, she recorded her solo debut in the studio and with the participation of Calexico members Joey Burns and John Convertino in Tucson . Another guest is Omara Portuondo in the song "La Parrandita De Las Santas".

On her second solo album from 2012, Alma de Cantaora (The Singer's Soul), she also worked with members of the band Calexico as well as with the producer Howe Gelb ( Giant Sand ), the Spanish singer Bebe and the rapper Arianna Puello .

The third solo album was released in 2014 and was produced by Joey Burns. In addition to Calexico members, other Latin American artists such as Carlos Jiménez or the “Colectivo Tapacamino de Oaxaca” appear. Sánchez is committed u. a. for the indigenous population of the Mexican state of Chiapas .
