Softdisk is an online services company and former computer game publisher founded in 1981 in Shreveport , Louisiana .

At first she sold a monthly disk with software for Apple II and Commodore 64 and later for the IBM -PC and the Apple Macintosh , and then for the Apple IIGS and Microsoft - Windows . In addition, Softdisk brought out the Screen Saver Studio , which is now distributed by Flat Rock Software. In 1989 published Soft Disk for the C64 under the label Loadstar / Soft Disk Publishing, Inc. , the first Sudoku - computer game called DigitHunt .

Softdisk became known primarily because the later id software founders John Carmack and John Romero programmed their first major titles there. They released titles such as Hovertank 3D , Rescue Rover, and Keen Dreams on a special disc that was released every two months . The engines , written mainly by Carmack, were later used for other games.

From 1995 Softdisk traded as an internet provider , web host and web developer . The company has been operating in this branch to this day.
