Three peppadews

Peppadew is the trade name of a sweet and spicy variety of paprika from South Africa . It is a cultivar of Capsicum baccatum , which, according to the manufacturer , is grown in the Limpopo province . In the past, the Mpumalanga province was also mentioned as a growing area.

history

The plant was allegedly discovered by a South African farmer in the garden of his holiday home in the Eastern Cape in 1993 and brought onto the market in the same decade. The name is a Portmanteau word from 'pepper', English for pepper or paprika, and 'dew', English for dew .

In 2000, the South African mushroom growing company Denny Mushrooms bought the brand name and the company behind it.

preparation

The seeds are first removed from the fruit to reduce the heat. Then they are inserted.

taste

The taste of Peppadew is sweet, with a slight sharpness around 1200 SHU on the Scoville scale .
