Per G. Norseng

Per Gudbrand Norseng (born October 6, 1951 in  Oslo ) is a Norwegian historian, professor at the University of Southeast Norway (USN) and research coordinator of the Norsk Maritimt Museum and the Norsk Folkemuseum .

biography

Norseng studied history with minor subjects Russian and sociology at the University of Oslo and graduated in 1983 with a Candidatus philologiæ (cand. Philol.). After working at various Norwegian universities, he began to work in the museum sector, initially at the Follo Museum and the Berg-Kragerø Museum . Norseng was Senior Curator from 2007 to 2010 and Director of the Norwegian Maritime Museum in 2010 and 2011 . After a shorter position as head of the Institute for Cultural and Human Sciences at Telemark University, he returned to the Maritime Museum in 2013 to now take on the coordination of the research work in addition to his work as a curator. Since the organizational merger of the Maritime Museum, now renamed Maritimt Museum, with the Norsk Folkemuseum, Norseng has been the research coordinator of both houses. Since 2014 he has also been a professor at from Telemark University College , the University of Vestfold and the University Buskerud incurred University Southeast Norway (USN).

Research priorities

Norseng's academic work focuses primarily on the medieval trading history of Norway in connection with the legal, urban and regional history as well as the maritime cultural history of southern Norway. Since the beginning of the 2010s, Norseng has also devoted itself intensively to research into Norwegian natural ice production and the natural ice trade. From this research an international research project has grown up, directly financed by the Norwegian Research Council ( Norges forskningsråd ), which under the title "de siste istid / the last ice-age / die last Eiszeit" describes the history of the trade in natural ice but above all its dependency explored by climate change. The international partners in the project are the University of Hull in Great Britain and Old Dominion University in the USA.
