Perch (unit)
Perch , also known as pole or rod , is an English measure of length and was used (according to the German rod ) in agriculture and forestry as a field measure. Nowadays it is still used as a measure of area (short for Square Perch ), especially in Jamaica and Sri Lanka and partly in Queensland .
The legal imperial perch or standard perch was
- 1 standard perch / rod = 5½ yards = 2229 3/8 Parisian lines = 1 Fanthom = 5.0291 meters
The Forest-Perch / Forest-Pole or Waldrute was
- 1 forest perch = 7 yards = 2837 1 / Parisian lines = 6.40 meters
The Woodland-Perch / Woodland-Pole or Holzlandrute was
- 1 woodland perch = 6 yards = 2432 Parisian lines = 5.50 meters
In the Ionian Islands had the measure
- 1 perch (rod) = 5,029 meters
The perch corresponds to 25.29 square meters or 1/160 of an acre .
