Percy Joske

Sir Percy Ernest Joske , CMG (born October 5, 1895 in Melbourne , † April 25, 1981 in Sydney ) was an Australian lawyer and politician . Joske was a judge on the Commonwealth Industrial Court and author of several books.

Life

Joske was born in Melbourne in 1895 as the youngest of three children of the German-born lawyer Ernest Joske and his wife Evalyn. The mother died as a result of childbirth. Percy Joske attended Wesley College and studied law at the University of Melbourne . In 1918 he finished his law studies with the Master of Law , in 1923 he passed the exams for the Master of Arts . Joske specialized in family law . In 1951 he was elected a member of the House of Representatives, where he represented the interests of the Balaklava constituency for the Liberal Party . He held the seat until 1960. In June 1960 he was appointed to a judge's post on the Commonwealth Industrial Court. As a judge he also worked for the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory (also from 1960), the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory (from 1961) and from 1966 for the Supreme Court of Norfolk Island. He also spoke regularly at the Supreme Court in Canberra law. In 1978 Joske published a biography of the politician Robert Menzies .

Joske was married twice and had a son from his first marriage.

Honors

Joske was accepted into the Order of St. Michael and St. George in 1967, and in 1977 he was knighted.
