Pere Gimferrer i Torrens (born June 22, 1945 in Barcelona ) is a Catalan writer in Catalan and Spanish. As a poet , essayist and translator , he is one of the most influential Catalan and Spanish authors of the present.

life and work

Pere Gimferrer emerged in the 1960s as one of the leading representatives of the Novísimos with poetry in Spanish. His Catalan poetry has also been published since 1971. With regular articles for daily newspapers, literary essays, artist monographs and as the program manager of the renowned publishing house Seix Barral (Barcelona) and as a proven cineast, Gimferrer has been one of the most recognized literary personalities in Catalonia for decades.

His poems are complex linguistic structures in which the immediacy of the sensual experience and the theoretical discussion of the possibilities of conveying it are superimposed and mutually dependent. Gimferrer's polyphonic, allusive poetry attempts to overcome the gap between subject and object through the poetic act. In his essays and monographs he critically observes the cultural events of the past decades and the role of intellectuals in society.
