Pere Joan Aldomar (* 15th century in Girona (uncertain); † 16th century) was a Catalan conductor of the Barcelona Cathedral and a composer of the Renaissance .

life and work

Pere Joan Aldomar was probably from Girona. He was probably related to the canon Aldomar, who was buried in the Cathedral of Barcelona in 1500. In 1506 he was appointed singing master of the aforementioned cathedral. He succeeded Bartomeu Rovira in this position . In 1508 he can be proven as a singer in the chapel Ferdinand II ("the Catholic").

Some of the most important music collections of the Iberian Peninsula from the 15th and early 16th centuries such as the Cancionero Musical de Palacio (also called Cançoner de Barcelona and kept in the Biblioteca de Catalunya ) or the Villancicos de diversos autores a dos, ya tres, ya quatro, ya cinco bozes (published in Venice in 1556, also called Cançoner del duc de Calàbria , songbook of the Duke of Calabria ) contain works by Pere Joan Aldomar. In particular, Villancicos , i.e. songs of praise and praise, such as En las sierras donde vengo (From the mountains, where I come from), Di pastorcico (the little shepherd), Pues vienes (Now you are coming) and Si mi señora m'olvida (If my wife forgets me) collected there by Pere Joan Aldomar. The occurrence of the Christmas carol Ha Pelayo, qué desmayo! (Hey Pelayo (probably a shepherd), I'm falling out of my socks!) In a source from the mid-16th century, the songbook of the Duke of Calabria, is evidence of the high popularity of the song written by Pere Joan Aldomar around 1500 .
