The Persian purple snail ( Purpura persica ) is a snail from the family of spiny snails that is common in the Indo-Pacific .
features
The large, thick-walled snail shell of Purpura persica , which reaches a length of up to 10 cm in adult snails, has a large body circumference, a short, blunt thread and a very large housing mouth. The case is sculptured with spiral cords with beads and simple cords running in between. The spindle is almost straight. The surface of the shell is chocolate brown with white spaces between the beads, the inside of the case mouth and the spindle are white.
Distribution, habitat and way of life
The Persian purple snail is distributed in the Indo-Pacific from Madagascar and the Mascarene Islands to eastern Polynesia , north to Japan and south to Queensland and New Caledonia , where it can be found on coral reefs under corals and rocks.
There are no publications on the snail's lifestyle, diet or reproductive cycle.
Importance to humans
Purpura persica is collected in Southeast Asia for its meat.
