Pes varus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pes varus describes an inward bending of the foot in the ankle joint ( varus position ). In the Dachshund it is a congenital growth disorder in which there is an eccentric medial (inner) closure of the distal epiphyseal plate of the tibia .

Treatment is only necessary if the limb deformity is causing lameness . In this case, a corrective osteotomy followed by plate osteosynthesis is indicated.
