The Pestalozzi Children's and Youth Village in Stockach - Wahlwies in the Baden-Württemberg district of Konstanz , named after Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi , is an educationally designed place to live for children and young people .
The establishment of child and youth welfare should generally create favorable living and development conditions and help to deal with, cope with and overcome the consequences of individual and / or social problems of the children and young people in care.
The Pestalozzi Children's and Youth Village is run by a non-profit association that is a signatory of the Transparent Civil Society Initiative.
history
The Pestalozzi Children's Village is the oldest children's village in Germany. It was founded in 1947 by the Swiss musicologist Erich Fischer and the Silesian doctor and farmer Adalbert Graf von Keyserlingk. They wanted to create a place for war orphans and refugee children in post-war Germany, based on the example of the Pestalozzi Children's Village in Trogen AR (Switzerland).
In January 1947 the association “Pestalozzi settlement for children” was founded and entered in the association register. They signed a lease agreement with the Allied administration for an abandoned area with twelve barracks that had been abandoned by the Reich Labor Service .
The Pestalozzi Children's and Youth Village has been a member of the Parity Welfare Association since 1960 .
capacities
The Pestalozzi Children's Village is located in the Wahlwies district of Stockach in the western Lake Constance area. The facility accepts up to 150 children, adolescents and young adults in children's village families , education groups for young people, outdoor living groups , and education centers.
In assisted living , young adults are supported in their independence. The Dr. Erich Fischer School is a special education and advice center with a focus on emotional and social development. In addition there are two socio-educational day groups and a social group.
The vocational training measure supports ten young adults in their professional orientation (rehabilitation measure of the “ Employment Agency ”). In cooperation with the local employment office and for young people from youth welfare, apprenticeships are available for full or half-time training in nine professional fields ( bakery , village shop, gardening , housekeeping , kitchen, agriculture , painter / varnisher , fruit growing and carpentry ).
Educational concept
In Kinderdorf families, children and young people experience “family” in the true sense of the word, as warmth, appreciation and reliability in everyday life. The family as the “heart” is supported by the “head” and “hand” facility: in the Dr. Erich Fischer School, a special educational and advisory center, the children receive individual support. The agricultural and craft training prepares you for an independent life.
The focus is always on the child / young person and their needs. In the trusting relationship with other people, they receive a basis for their development, which is why the children and young people are offered opportunities to enter into new relationships. The previous ties of the children and young people are respected and the biological parents / the living environment are included as far as possible.
The principles of the Pestalozzi Children's Village:
- A safe place and a strong bond
Children need a safe place and a strong bond. This is the elementary basis for young people to develop socially, mentally and physically. That is why the children and adolescents live in children's village families. The entire Pestalozzi Children's Village is an offer of relationships to the young people.
- With head, heart and hand
The name of the first children's village in Germany refers to Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi (1746–1827). The educator from Zurich recognized what children need more than 200 years ago: “By training the heart, head and hand, upbringing should promote harmonious development. The heart as the organ of the center should be developed in the living room at home. The head, the intellectual, in school and the hand by learning a solid craft. It is important to ensure that all three elements are in balance. ”This holistic approach is still effective today in the Pestalozzi Children's and Youth Village Wahlwies in the children's village families, in kindergarten and school as well as in therapies and in vocational preparation and training .
- Live with and in nature
The training companies produce according to biodynamic guidelines. The children's village has been pursuing systematic environmental management since 1999. Environmental protection is taken into account in all areas. The children and young people in the Pestalozzi Children's and Youth Village have many opportunities to get to know nature and are introduced to the careful handling of the environment.
Establishments
The Pestalozzi Children's and Children's Village Wahlwies e. V. operates nine training companies in which young people are trained as skilled workers or in full training, supply the children's village with products and services and offer products and services on the market. The companies come from the craft, agricultural and food processing sectors. In addition, two businesses (village shop and “Pestalozzi brings organic”) orient themselves exclusively with the marketing of their own and purchased goods. With the commissioning of “Pestalozzi brings organic” in November 2016, the Pestalozzi Children's and Youth Village founded another marketing channel in order to further expand regional direct marketing and to respond to changes in consumer behavior.
