Petar Panchevsky
Petar Pavlov Pantschewski ( Bulgarian Петър Павлов Панчевски , born January 25, 1902 in Butan , † November 17, 1982 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian politician and general.
Life
Panchevsky took part in the September uprising in 1923 . From 1924 he belonged to the Bulgarian Communist Party . In 1925 he emigrated to the Soviet Union and joined the Red Army there. From 1936 to 1939 he fought in the Spanish Civil War , from 1941 to 1945 in the Second World War . In 1945 he returned to Bulgaria and in 1950 became Bulgarian Minister of Defense. He held the office until 1958. From 1954 to 1958 he was also a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Bulgarian Communist Party.
He was awarded the Order of Georgi Dimitrov as the Hero of the People's Republic of Bulgaria .
