Peter-Ben Smit

Peter-Ben Smit (born September 21, 1979 in Rotterdam ) is a Dutch old Catholic theologian.

Life

From 1997 to 2000 he studied theology (MA) at the University of Amsterdam (main subject: Biblical theology), from 1997 to 2003 theology at the Oud-Katholiek Seminarie (Utrecht), then ordained diaconate and priest (2004, 2005), pastoral activity of 2004 to 2018, from 2008 to 2011 as pastor and parish administrator of the Christian Catholic parishes of Bern and Thun. From 2016 also as Dean of the Diocese of Haarlem and from 2000 to 2002 Biblical Studies (MA) at the University of Sheffield . From 2001 to 2005 he completed a doctoral degree at the University of Bern (supervision: Ulrich Luz and Urs von Arx ). From 2006 to 2011 he completed a doctoral degree in Anglican theology at General Theological Seminary (supervision: J. Robert Wright ). Since 2011 he has been Professor of Old Catholic Church Structures and the History and Teaching of Old Catholicism at the University of Utrecht . Since 2016 he has been a full professor of contextual interpretation of the Bible at the theological faculty of the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam (Dom Hélder Câmara chair). Since October 2018 he has been Associate Professor of Systematic Theology and Ecumenism at the Institute for Christian Catholic Theology of the Theological Faculty of Bern .
