The Peter-Pauls-Kirche in Beierfeld is a small hall church in the Saxon Ore Mountains .

Building history

Even before the nearby Grünhain Abbey was founded in the first half of the 13th century, the church was built in the late Romanesque style. It was first mentioned in a document in 1301 and is one of the oldest church buildings in the Ore Mountains. During a renovation in 1607, the church was extended significantly to the north and received its current shape with a steep pitched roof and an octagonal slate-clad roof turret with a curved hood. The door frame of the south entrance is marked with 1607 . It was rededicated on October 17, 1608. In a further renovation in 1768, a two-storey choir was added to the outer south side for the owners of the Sachsenfeld manor , who held the right of patronage over the church and had a barrel-vaulted hereditary burial under the sacristy on the ground floor of the extension. The installation of a north gallery created additional seats for the growing number of villagers. After the new construction of the much larger Christ Church in Beierfeld in 1897/98, the Peter-Pauls-Kirche was used as a burial church from 1908 and, in the meantime under the patronage of the city of Schwarzenberg , received its old name Peter-Pauls-Kirche back in 1921 . Since the 1930s, the building fell into disrepair and was no longer used from 1975. In 1994 the Kulturhistorische Förderverein Beierfeld e. V. was founded primarily for the maintenance and use of the Peter and Paul Church. In 2000 the building was transferred from the parish to the political community of Beierfeld (today Grünhain-Beierfeld ) for the purpose of a jointly responsible collaboration .

inner space

The interior is designed as a single-pillar hall with a flat field ceiling and encircling galleries with several prayer rooms. The patronage box was canceled in 1984/85. The parapets of the east gallery from 1608 are painted with representations of the Old Testament. The eastern part of the north gallery was converted into an organ gallery in 1726 and expanded in 1768. The parapets are painted with representations of the New Testament. The simple renaissance confessional is provided with carved bars. The pulpit altar was rebuilt in 1768 from the Renaissance retable of 1608. The predella is decorated with a painting of the Last Supper. The simple polygonal pulpit replaced a crucifixion painting from 1608. The classicist wooden baptism was made in 1830, the life-size wooden crucifix on the central pillar is of late Gothic origin. The organ by Johannes Jacobus Donati was installed in 1728 and is one of the oldest preserved organs in the Ore Mountains. The baroque prospectus was painted in color by Johann Heinrich Hochmuth in 1736. Since 2006 donations have been collected for the renovation of the badly dilapidated instrument. In front of the altar is a marble grave slab for Ottilia Schleher († 1609), two bronze grave slabs for Hammerherr Nikolaus Klinger († 1610) and his wife Anna († 1608) and three iron grave slabs for Klinger's son-in-law and successor as Lord von Sachsenfeld Hans Rüdiger († 1630), his daughter († around 1630) and his mother († 1613). In the interior and attached to the outer wall there are other baroque epitaphs and grave monuments made of wood or slate and sandstone.
