The Peter-Wust-Gymnasium ( PWG ) is a high school in Wittlich . It is named after the philosopher Peter Wust .

history

Today's Peter-Wust-Gymnasium was founded on January 23, 1948 as the “State Pedagogy for Girls”. The school was the first in Germany to be founded in this normal form of school, based on the model of the French Ecole . A boarding school was later attached to the girls' school in order to give schoolchildren from a wider catchment area the opportunity to attend school.

Initially, the pedagogy and boarding school were housed in the Cusanusgymnasium. The boarding school then moved to Kurfürstenstraße (today's House of Youth ) and in 1955 finally to Koblenzer Straße.

Since the number of grades was increased from 4 to 6 in the following years, the pedagogy department underwent a name change in 1953. From now on the school was called the “State Advanced School for Girls”.

The main building was completed in 1965, so that space was now also available for the boarding school and classrooms. Boys were also admitted for the first time in 1965.

The Peter-Wust-Gymnasium has always been in a more or less serious competition with the Cusanus-Gymnasium (named after Nikolaus von Kues ), which is also located in Wittlich .

In an expert opinion, it was found that the ceilings in the outbuilding did not meet the standard; it was therefore closed. The school was divided so that no lessons were canceled. Since November 11, 2009, the main building has been intended for the 10th to 13th grades. The 5th to 9th grades have been moved to the Wengerohr school center .

In a resolution of the district council of the Bernkastel-Wittlich district of December 14, 2009 it was decided that the auxiliary building should be renovated and the main building enlarged.

At the beginning of the 2013/2014 school year, the construction work was completed so that all students can be accommodated at the Wittlich site again.
