Life

He grew up in Vorarlberg . From 1997 to 2007 he was a university assistant at the Institute for Analytical Chemistry at the University of Vienna . After completing his habilitation in analytical chemistry in Vienna in 2007, he taught there from 2007 to 2011 as an associate professor. From March 2008 to September 2012 he was Deputy Director of Studies in Chemistry, 2012–2014 Director of Studies and Vice Dean for Teaching of the Faculty of Chemistry. 2010–2014 he worked as deputy head of the SPL doctoral program in the natural and technical sciences, responsible for chemistry and sports science at the University of Vienna. Since October 2014 he has been the Studienpräses at the University of Vienna.

In May 2011 he became an instructor in the Graduate School of the Faculty of Science at Kasetsart University . Since October 2011 he has been Professor (according to § 99 Para. 3 UG 2002) for Analytical Chemistry at the Institute for Analytical Chemistry (until 01/2016) and Institute for Physical Chemistry (since 02/2016) at the University of Vienna.

His main research interests are the development of highly selective sensor materials for mass-sensitive, optical and capacitive sensors , molecularly shaped polymers for use in a wide range of analytes, affinity nanoparticles , molecular spectrometry and surface analysis using FTIR , sensor arrays for multi-component analysis and measurements in real matrices.

In 2011 he received the Fritz Feigl Prize from the Austrian Society for Analytical Chemistry (ASAC).

In 2018 he organized the “17th International Meeting on Chemical Sensors - IMCS2018” in Vienna and has since been chairman of the “International Steering Committee” of this conference series. He is also co-editor of the magazine Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical .
