Peter Altmann

Peter Christian Altmann (born April 3, 1940 in Vienna ) is an Austrian composer , author and music teacher .

Altmann comes from a musical family and initially received piano lessons from his mother, and after the war years also at the Vienna Conservatory . Erwin Christian Scholz became his sponsor at the teacher training institute in Vienna 1 (Matura 1959), who also accompanied his further training years at the Vienna University of Music . From 1959 he studied composition there with Karl Schiske , Otto Siegl and Gottfried von Eine and from 1960 music education for teaching and history at the University of Vienna .

From 1964, Altmann taught at the upper level high school Hegelgasse in Vienna and was also a lecturer at the Vienna University of Music (school music internship, didactics of new music).

In 1974 he was visiting professor at music academies in Scandinavia. In 1978 he founded the New Vienna Vocal Ensemble and took over its artistic direction. This was followed by the establishment of the Weinwurm Museum in Scheideldorf ( Lower Austria ).

In 1990 he led the Vienna Singverein's Australian tour as a conductor . From 1991 to 1993 he was President of the Austrian Society for Choral Music (ÖGC).

Altmann is the author of numerous school radio programs, publisher of several volumes in the Red Series at Universal Edition Vienna, as well as author of numerous music books and speaker at music congresses of the International Society for Music Education (ISME).
