Peter Arnold (priest)

Peter Arnold (born July 12, 1908 in Simplon , † January 8, 1983 in Brig ) was a Swiss Catholic priest and historian .

Life

Peter Arnold, the son of the hotel employee Franz Arnold, attended the Brig high school from 1923 to 1931. He then studied theology from 1931 to 1935 in Sion. He was ordained a priest in 1935. This was followed by positions as pastor of Blatten (1937–1946), Eggerberg (1946–1951) and Mörel (1951–1973).

From 1948 he published numerous popular scientific works on the history of Valais. From 1958 to 1978 he was president of the historical research association of Upper Valais and from 1973 to 1983 editor of the Walliser Jahrbuch . In 1968 Arnold was awarded the City of Brig Prize for his historical work.
