Peter Boyle (born June 8, 1951 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish epidemiologist .

Life

Peter Boyle first studied biostatistics at the University of Glasgow and wanted to become a teacher. Only a study project drew him to epidemiology, where he then wrote his dissertation . His next career steps brought him to the local cancer registry and eventually to Harvard University , Public Health School. He came back to Europe to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in Lyon, France. From this WHO agency he was called to the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, one of the best private cancer hospitals in Italy, where he spent around 11 years. In 2004 Boyle returned to the IARC as elected director. Since 2009 he has been President of the International Prevention Research Institute iPRI, based in Lyon. In 2000 he became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh . In 2010 he was elected an honorary member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and in 2013 a member of the Academia Europaea .

Services

One of Peter Boyle's most important achievements is the development and implementation of the European Code against Cancer . In addition, Peter Boyle deals with prevention research and translation research in the broadest sense. He is invited speaker of many international scientific congresses and one of the leading figures in the scientific fight against cancer.

  • Peter Boyle has published more than 500 original articles in scientific journals. He holds several honorary doctorates and honorary professorships at several British universities.
