Peter Braumüller

Peter Braumüller (* 1959 in Wiener Neustadt ) is an Austrian actuary and lawyer . He was Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors from 2008 to 2014 .

Professional background

After studying actuarial mathematics at the Vienna University of Technology and law at the University of Vienna , Braumüller went to the Federal Ministry of Finance in 1983 to work in the field of insurance supervision. In 1999 he was promoted to Head of Insurance Supervision before he held the same position there in April 2002 after the FMA was formed as an independent authority.

After Braumüller had worked for the European Free Trade Association in the office responsible for the financial sector between 1993 and 1994 , he held another office on the international stage in October 2008 when he was elected Chairman of the Executive Committee of the IAIS. He is also on the board of the CEIOPS and since January 2011 has been one of the six members of the administrative board of the European insurance supervisory authority EIOPA, which was founded in the same month .

In October 2014, after six years at the head of the body, Braumüller was replaced by the German BaFin Executive Director of Insurance and Pension Fund Supervision Felix Hufeld as Chairman of the IAIS Executive Committee.
