Peter Brotschi

Peter Brotschi (born May 26, 1957 in Grenchen ) is a Swiss journalist , author and politician ( CVP ).

Life

Peter Hermann Brotschi comes from a family that has been proven to have arrived in Selzach, SO at the southern foot of the Jura, around 1500 following the course of the Aare. He grew up with two brothers and a sister in Grenchen and Trimbach. After training as a primary school teacher in Solothurn, he started working as a freelancer in journalism, and after seven years of teaching and writing, he switched to Solothurner Zeitung as an editor in 1986, where he was responsible for cantonal politics. In 1989 he became editor-in-chief of the Grenchner Tagblatt. From 1992 he was deputy town clerk for Grenchen. From 1994 to 2002 he was editor-in-chief of the aviation magazine AeroRevue. Since then he has been working in his traditional profession as a primary school teacher and as a freelance writer, especially in the aviation department. He has been working as a freelance writer since 2018.

As a book author, he appeared in public from 1985 with two stories with a criminal background. This was followed by four books on aviation topics, mainly from the Swiss Air Force. The last work "Broken Wings - All Aviation Accidents of the Swiss Air Force" dealt with this chapter of Swiss military and aviation history for the first time. In 2013 the autobiographical work "A Little Heaven for Me" was published and in 2018 his debut novel "Biders Nacht" was published.

Peter Brotschi had his glider license at the age of 18 and later switched to powered flight. He mainly uses his aviation activities for landscape photography. Above all, he documents the urban sprawl in Switzerland.

In 2010 he appeared as an aviation expert in the Swiss TV series for the anniversary "100 Years of Swiss Aviation". Seven contributions and one focus week from 19 to 23 July 2010 in the "Schweiz aktuell" channel.

politics

In 2007 he ran for the Christian Democratic People's Party (CVP) as a lateral entrant for the National Council elections, but was not elected. On the occasion of the ordinary renewal elections, he was elected to the cantonal council of the canton of Solothurn for the CVP in spring 2009 . In the legislative period 2009–2013 he was a member of the Social and Health Commission and the Interparliamentary Commission of the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland (IPK FHNW). He presided over this commission in 2010/2011. In 2012 he was President of the special commission for the new building of the Solothurn Citizens Hospital. The candidacy for the full renewal elections to the National Council in October 2011 ended for him in the first replacement. In 2013 he was re-elected to the Cantonal Council. He took a seat in the Education and Culture Commission and also in the IPK FHNW. In 2014 he was President of the Cantonal Council. In 2017 he was re-elected to the Cantonal Council and to the municipal council (executive) of the city of Grenchen. In the Cantonal Council, he is Vice-President of the Audit Commission.

In October 2018 he became President of the Association of Citizens and Forest Owners of the Canton of Solothurn (BWSo).

In 1978 he graduated from the Air Recruits School at Payerne Air Base , 1979 the NCOs, followed in the spring of 1980 by the Officers School in Dübendorf. From 1980 to 2010 he served as a militia officer in the Swiss Air Force, most recently he was in command of the Air Force's communications department with the rank of major .

Peter Brotschi is the father of two grown children.
