Peter Ettel

Peter Ettel (born June 25, 1960 in Ingolstadt ) is a German prehistorian .

Scientific and professional career

From 1981 to 1989 Peter Ettel studied prehistory , history and Roman provincial archeology at the universities of Munich , Kiel and Bonn . In 1985 he obtained the title of Magister Artium with a study of Young Bronze Age hoards in the Carpathian Basin. In 1989 he received his doctorate in Munich with a thesis on burial grounds from the Hallstatt period from Upper Franconia. From 1990 to 1996 he was Walter Janssen's research assistant at the chair for Prehistory and Protohistory at the University of Würzburg and qualified as a professor in 1996 with a study on early medieval castle construction in Northern Bavaria. Then he took over the deputy head of the institute and the deputy chair in Würzburg as senior assistant until 1998 . In 1998 he became head of the Department of Soil Monument Preservation in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and taught at the University of Rostock . In 2000 he was appointed to the chair for prehistory and early history at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena .

His research focuses on the Iron Age in Europe, prehistoric castle building, prehistory and early history in Thuringia and Central Germany as well as settlement archeology.
