Peter Fassbands

Peter Fassbands (born January 28, 1869 in Aachen , † February 27, 1920 in Zurich ) was a German-Swiss composer .

Life

Fassbands completed his music studies at the Rheinische Musikhochschule in Cologne . After studying in 1890, he stayed in Saarbrücken for a few years . There he became the conductor of an orchestra (instrumental association) and of the choral society Harmonie . From 1895 he lived in Lucerne and moved to Zurich in 1911 . There he taught piano playing to Fritz Brun and Max Kuhn .

His oeuvre includes eight symphonies , four operas , symphonic poems , fantasies and choral and organ works. These works have almost been forgotten. Only his compositions for wind orchestra are still played today, especially in Switzerland. He was one of the first in Switzerland to compose original literature for wind orchestras. He was commissioned to write all the compulsory pieces , some Primavista and a complete choir piece for the 16th Federal Music Festival in Vevey . He also wrote the compulsory works for the Bern Cantonal Music Festival in 1914.
