Peter Fick ( December 12, 1913 - August 10, 1980 in Miami ) was an American swimmer.

Life

Fick used the butterfly style , which had only been invented a little before, and in the years 1934 to 1936 pushed the record for 100 meters freestyle held by Johnny Weissmüller by a full second to 56.4.

He entered the 1936 Olympic Games and was beaten by Ferenc Csik in the 100 meter freestyle competition. Fick did not have a second chance to win an Olympic medal: the games scheduled for 1940 were not held because of the war .

Trivia

As Friedrich Torberg reported in his book Die Erben der Tante Jolesch , he had to give up his job as a sports reporter at Prager Mittag after he had given an article about Peter Fick the title New Fick Record . A few years later, Torberg met a fellow journalist who told him the same thing was happening to him for the headline Fuck Always Faster! happens.
