Peter Gajdoš (born April 9, 1959 in Nitra ) is a Slovak politician .

Life

Gajdoš graduated from the Jan Žižka Military School in Banská Bystrica in 1978 and then embarked on a career in the armed forces of Czechoslovakia . His last military function in the Czechoslovak Army was that of a regiment commander of the 10th Panzer Regiment in Martin . From 1995 to 1998 he was the personal secretary of the Defense Minister in Bratislava . He also attended various courses at foreign institutes, for example the Russian Frunze Military Academy in 1990 or, most recently, in 2002, the Royal College of Defense Studies in the United Kingdom. From 2013 to 2016 he was Chief of Staff of the Slovak Army.

On a proposal by the SNP, Gajdoš became a non-party defense minister in the third Fico government , which was formed on March 4, 2016 after the 2016 elections. In his office he is striving for a fundamental modernization of the armed forces.
