Peter Giesen

Peter Giesen (born August 8, 1921 in Viersen ; † September 15, 2018 in Jüchen ) was a German politician ( CDU ). From 1958 to 1980 he was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Life

Peter Giesen was called up for military service after graduating from high school; he ended the Second World War as a severely disabled person. After training at a pedagogical academy, he worked as a teacher from 1947, from 1951 as headmaster in Garzweiler , until in 1975 he was rector under the state law. D. was.

Giesen joined the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in 1951. He was a member of the state parliament from July 21, 1958 to May 28, 1980, in the 4th and 5th electoral periods for constituency 28 (Grevenbroich-West), from the 6th to the 8th for constituency 30 (Grevenbroich II). In the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament, Giesen was deputy chairman of the sports committee from 1970 to 1975 and chairman of the petitions committee from 1975 to 1980 . Giesen held a seat on the Broadcasting Council of West German Broadcasting from March 1960 to September 1984 , and then on the Board of Directors. The Landtag elected him a member of the second (1954) and fifth (1969) federal assemblies .

Giesen was also active at the municipal level, from 1955 to 1975 as a member of the Grevenbroich district council , then until 1979 of the Neuss district council , as well as a member of the local council and mayor of Garzweiler from 1961 to 1974, then until 1989 as a member of the local council and mayor of the community Juchen. Before and after the resettlement of Garzweiler, which fell victim to open-cast lignite mining at the old location , he was committed to the concerns of the affected citizens, as well as to maintaining the memory of Old Garzweiler.

In the CDU, Giesen became district association chairman in Grevenbroich in 1958, and a member of the state executive in 1973. In 1981 the CDU in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss appointed him honorary chairman.
