Peter Haag (politician)

Peter Haag (born February 25, 1973 in Schwarzenbach ) is a Swiss politician of the Swiss People's Party (SVP).

Haag comes from an entrepreneurial family and grew up as the second oldest of three children in Schwarzenbach . After completing elementary school in Schwarzenbach, he attended secondary school in Wil and then completed an apprenticeship as an electrician. At the same time, he was studying at the vocational school in St. Gallen . From 1993, Haag attended the recruiting school for the Swiss Army's transmission troops and later became commander of Command Support Battalion 7. Most recently, until May 2011, he had the rank of lieutenant colonel. After his active time there, he became head of training at the Office for Military and Civil Protection of the Canton of St. Gallen. There, Haag was responsible for training members of the civil defense for the cantons of Appenzell Innerrhoden , Appenzell Ausserrhoden and St. Gallen . From August 1, 2019, Peter Haag will be the headmaster at the Toggenburg Music School.

In May 2000, Haag became a member of the St. Gallen Cantonal Council for the first time . In 2004 he was confirmed in office and again a member of the Cantonal Council, but had to resign on July 20, 2004 for professional reasons. On November 24, 2014, he replaced the resigned member Max Rombach and became a member of the Cantonal Council again. In the 2016 election he was able to defend his seat. From June 2015 to June 2016 he was a member of the Presidium of the Cantonal Council. Since June 2016 he has been a member of the parliamentary interest groups "Security", "Real Estate" and "Sport" . He is also a member of the standing parliamentary commissions "Justice Commission" and "Editorial Commission".

At the municipal level, Haag has been president of the SVP local association Jonschwil-Schwarzenbach since 2009 and was also district president of the SVP of the Wil SG constituency from 2002 to 2005. During the same period he was also a member of the party's cantonal board.

Haag lives in Schwarzenbach with his wife and two children.
