Peter Hasse the Elder
Peter Hasse the Elder (* around 1575 in Franconia ; buried June 16, 1640 in Lübeck ; also called Petrus Hasse ) was an organist and composer of the North German organ school .
Life
Little is known about Hasse's early years. He may have been a student of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck . In 1616 he took over the office of organist at the Marienkirche in Lübeck from his predecessor Hermann Ebel . Together with his successors Franz Tunder and Dieterich Buxtehude , Hasse is responsible for making Lübeck one of the musical centers in Northern Germany. Several salary increases testify to his reputation.
His organ art also had a far-reaching effect through his students and sons. Except for the eldest son Johannes, whose daughter Anna Dorothea was married to the Buxtehude pupil Nicolaus Bruhns , all of Hasse's sons became musicians, including Nicolaus Hasse .
Peter Hasse the Elder was the great-grandfather of the famous Rococo composer Johann Adolf Hasse .
Hate's work has only been handed down in fragments. Two organ chorals, a preamble for organ, a seven-part mass and an eight-part motet have been preserved .
