Peter Hodiamont was the son of a Dutch father and a German mother. From 1937 he attended the grammar school of the Mariengarden monastery in Burlo, a district of Borken in Westphalia. As a foreigner, forcibly recruited by the German Wehrmacht and after a short war deployment, he was able to take the Abitur at the Couven-Gymnasium in Aachen in 1946 . From 1946 to 1948 he studied drawing, glass painting and free painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy as a master student of Otto Pankok and Heinrich Kamps , before he decided to work in his father's painting business. In 1955 he passed his master craftsman examination as a painter. From 1956 to 1962 he was a lecturer at the master school of the Chamber of Crafts for Painters in Aachen.
From 1969 to 1982 Hodiamont was an art teacher at the girls' high school St. Ursula high school in Aachen. In 1970 he moved to Baelen, Belgium, where regular exhibitions were held in a farmhouse and residential building "House of the Sun" in the Mazarinen district that had been converted into a studio. In 1977 Hodiamont completed a theological degree in Cologne. His work is shaped by his intensive preoccupation with religious topics. So many ways of the cross, church windows and doors, etc. a. the seven-part woodcut cycle “The Song of the Sun of Saint Franz”. Hodiamont also received numerous commissions for sculptures and fountains in public spaces.
From 1982 Hodiamont worked as a freelance artist in Baelen. In 1997 the "Peter PJ Hodiamont Foundation" was established, which administers his work and maintains the sculpture garden in Baelen. A large solo exhibition took place in March 1999 under the title "RetrospektivEPerspektivenE" at the Museum Zinkhütter Hof in Stolberg .
