Peter Honigmann

Peter Honigmann (* 1952 as Peter Obermann ) is a German archivist. From 1991 to 2016 he was the director of the Heidelberg Central Archives for research into the history of Jews in Germany .

His father is the historian Karl Obermann . His maternal grandfather is the classical philologist and philosopher Rudolf Schottlaender . He is married to the writer and painter Barbara Honigmann .

He lived in East Berlin until 1984, studied physics there at the Humboldt University and in 1977 received his doctorate from Hellmut Baumgärtel on "Limitation methods in scattering theory" of quantum mechanics at the Academy of Sciences . In 1982 he switched to the history of science and worked at the Alexander von Humboldt Research Center until he emigrated. In 1984 he went to Strasbourg with his family and began studying the Talmud at the Yechiva des Étudiants.
