Peter Hummelgaard Thomsen

Peter Hummelgaard Thomsen (born January 17, 1983 in Tårnby ) is a Danish politician of the Social Democrats . Since June 2019 he has been the Danish Minister for Employment.

education and profession

Hummelgaard studied law at the University of Copenhagen from 2004 to 2015 . Between 2005 and 2008 he worked as a student in the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs . From 2012 to 2014 he worked as a consultant, most recently as a political consultant at the trade union federation Fagligt Fælles Forbund (3F).

Political career

From 2008 to 2012 Hummelgaard was chairman of the youth organization Danmarks Socialdemokratiske Ungdom (DSU). He also criticized the line of government under Thorning-Schmidt . For example, he spoke out against his party's position not to continue fighting for a European financial tax.

In the 2015 election , Hummelgaard entered the Danish parliament, the Folketing , for the first time . Since then he has represented the constituency of Copenhagen . Until 2019 he was the EU political spokesman for his party.

On June 27, 2019, he was appointed Minister for Employment in the new Frederiksen government.
