Live and act

After completing a commercial training in Cologne, he joined his father's company. He took a few business trips abroad to expand and initially expanded the company's product range to include wine and mineral water. He also took over the goiter Molanus bottle designed by the glassblower Molanus and introduced a colored label for cologne bottles.

In 1832, Wilhelm Mülhens was convicted of "abuse of name" in court proceedings. He and his business partners lost the right to use the name “FARINA” due to the contract of 1803. (Judgment of the royal regional court, 1st civil chamber in Cologne) In order to continue operating under the name "FARINA", in 1832 Peter Joseph Mülhens, the son of Wilhelm Mülhens , accepted a Farina from Mortara (Italy) into his company as a partner for " Comptoir work and supervision of production ”. In 1847 this Farina from Mortara died.

In 1848 he was a member of the preliminary parliament .

In 1862 a new naming law came into force, according to which only the name of a partner may be used as a company name. Mülhens thus again lost the basis for using the name "FARINA"

In order to continue using the name “FARINA”, Peter Joseph Mülhens had the day laborer Ludwig Franz Farina come to Cologne from Lesmo in Italy. In 1865 he had a "FARINA" company registered. He himself deleted his company on October 21, 1865, only to have him transfer the company "Franz Maria Farina in Glockengasse 4711 opposite the post office" three days later .

In 1872 Mülhens made his son Ferdinand his partner.

At the beginning of the 1840s he was a shareholder in the Rheinische Zeitung and later invested in the newly emerging industries such as transport companies. He was particularly committed to the construction of the Cologne-Bonn railway line .
